An amazing story of Courage and Bravery. He acted despite his wounds and excelled in bringing honor to himself and saved at least 8 families from certain grief. What a Hero. Im sure no one ever asked him who he voted for or his party affiliation. He was just an American soldier who did his duty to the best of his training and ability. Thank God for a serviceman like you.

WHAT DOES REMEMBRANCE MEAN TO YOU?This is an important time of year for me, both in my business and my personal life. I know it's not important to everyone though, or is important for different reasons, and that's absolutely fine. I'd just like to share this with you all in the spirit of community, as I believe it's very powerful. As a Royal Air Force Veteran of 17 years, and a (very part-time) RAF Reservist for the last few years alongside my business, it perhaps might seem obvious that Remembrance is something I would care about. I have attended many Remembrance events, parades and services over the years, and it's something we've always taken our children to as well. We're both super proud to see them parade again this weekend with Scouting; lovely that they can actually take part too.A portion of my client base is military personnel and/or military families, so it's really important to me to be able to support them through this period too; particularly if it's a tough time for them.I'm sharing this video because it sums up how I feel about Remembrance!Remembrance does not aim to glorify war.Remembrance is about ALL personnel that have been lost, regardless of gender, race or creed, service or civilian.Remembrance is about the animals of war who did not have a choice, but served so dutifully.Remembrance is about teaching future generations not to forget the horrors, and not to repeat them.Remembrance is bigger than any individual person. No matter what your thoughts on Remembrance, and whether you observe it in your own life, I'd really appreciate you watching this short video. It will just take a few minutes of your life and the simplicity of the idea behind it, in my opinion, conveys a really important message.I'd love to know what you think.Pause. Reflect. Remember.#lifecoach #lestweforget #wewillrememberthem #armedforces #veterans

Why we don't win wars..Being a very proud ex serviceman, this seems like a strange thing to write, but I believe we should be collectively asking this question. Before the backlash begins, I must say, that we have won conflicts and tactical battles, indeed the military campaigns in 2001 Afghanistan and 2003 Iraq, from a purely military perspective were successful, what happened after was arguably not.Why is this? Why do we not win? It is, in my view quite simple, we do not map the domain in which the object of war resides: the cognitive domain. So how do you "power progress" and "define your future" as #DSEI bravely tries to achieve? We realise that war can only be truly won, truly ended, if we map cognitive shift. It is telling, and reflective of the current military acquisition thinking, that the DSEI list of exhibitors does not include anything to do with cognitive shift. Yes there is the nod to AI and robotics and even data management, but I think it is time for us to grasp the nettle and address this existential threat.DSEI NATO Allied Command Transformation (ACT) Paul Grøstad Roberto Lafforgue Luca Leone Philip Hicks Air University#dsei2023 #newthinking https://lnkd.in/eYTyxUC9

When I deployed to Iraq as a young logistics officer with my platoon, I learned a leadership lesson that has stayed with me for 18 years. I saw the movie 300 for the first time right before we rolled into Ramadi during the Surge. It's a great movie to watch with your platoon before you go on patrol. The story was great, but it wasn't the story that spoke to me. It was how Leonidas spoke to his troops. Specifically, these three sentences:This is where we hold them. This is where we fight. This is where they die.On these shields, boys!300 was the true story of 300 Spartan warriors led by King Leonidas. They sacrificed themselves in a successful holding action against a Persian army of thousands so that the rest of Greece could come together to push Xerxes back. In his speech, Leonidas started at the end. Faced with a seemingly impossible situation, he started with his VISION, the end state, the outcome. He declared the outcome before it happened. He didn't say, we're going to try. He said, this is what will happen. This is what we will do. Simple. Start with the vision, deliver the mission, rally the team to action. He didn't discuss how they might fail or how they might retreat. He stated the vision and how they would achieve the end result. He generated an unstoppable attitude, and it led to one of the most heroic successful last stands of all time and an ultimate victory.I learned the concept as a young leader, but I have been slowly learning to apply it over the decades. We don't have to be King Leonidas to be a good leader. But we should hold his attitude close to our heart and let it guide our actions.Whether it's a patrol, a global campaign, a battle, a project, perhaps three projects:Know your end-state, decide the outcome, then work back from there as you build your plan. Start with the end and go back to the beginning. Focus your team on the outcome, set your course and all follow on actions on it like the North Star. Roll out with calm assurance to challenge the constraints and achieve the vision! It works.#spartan #leadership #vision #projectmanagement #Iraq #OIF #Army #officership #PM
