RWBY Games

If given to the right team, pretty much any of these could work well for RWBY. We've already got a fun if short and unpolished Beat 'em Up in Grimm Eclipse and a side-scrolling Metroidvainia in Arrowfell.

An open-world RPG is the most appealing option, though that would require a pretty comprehensive customization system if we want to make good use of transforming weapons and Semblances since I'd imagine most players would want as many viable builds as possible.

The storyline is one of the most important parts of games in my opinion, especially for a franchise that already has several other installments like the main series. What would a game in the world of RWBY be about? It would have to be a well thought out and engaging story with good character development for the game to be a success.

Well, if I know my open-world RPGs- and I know my open-world RPGs- there'd be less one cohesive story that all playthroughs follow and more countless options that take you in various different paths through the world of Remnant. I'm guessing an overarching plot where you gradually discover the lost history of the Age of Magic and Salem's uprising against the Brothers. Maybe exploring old ruins, or possibly securing Relics and magical artifacts. The Falls of Beacon and Atlas might be in-game events where your Huntsman would have a lot of opportunities to get involved and fight against Salem. Hell, there might even be a dark path for those who want to join Salem.

Hmm... not a bad premise, though keeping it so open-ended without a major or unique storyline to follow may lead to receive mixed reviews. I do like the idea of putting in a dark path for some players to take.

Here is an idea of mine: what about a storyline that takes place after the main series? The main series in RWBY is not finished yet, and who knows if it ever will be. Despite this, a game that takes place after the events of the main series may be good because it could introduce a whole new storyline instead of following old ones. It could give new characters and different world(s) compared to Remnant.

Maaybe do it like hogwarts legacy by setting 15 years after remnant rebuilds

The thing about these sorts of games is that it doesn't have to be linked to the main plot of the show. It could be set prior to the events of the series, during or after the Great War for instance, or it could go even further back. Something set after the main series needs to wait until the show actually gets a conclusion.

Exploring ruins from the First Humanity is honestly not appealing to me. The Age of Magic looks to be the least interesting time period in terms of worldbuilding, as it'd be difficult to distinguish from any other generic fantasy setting. It has also been so inconceivably long that there shouldn't be anything left from that time anyway, all the ruins explored during the main series presumably belong to the Second Humanity. This idea reminds me of the Ayelid ruins in The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion; an interesting facet of the world building, but incredibly dull in terms of gameplay. If we're exploring ruins, I'd rather see more recently abandoned sites with interesting stories to tell that are unique to the setting, as a vault full of Garys is so much more enjoyable to explore than the fifteenth tomb of undead, even if they are the same in terms of gameplay.

Judging by the way the story is unfolding, I'm not sure if a world set after the main show would be recognizable. We've already lost two kingdoms, that's two major aspects of the lore down the drain. Setting it before the Great War leads to a world with no Huntsmen and probably no Huntsman weapons, which would take away one of the main draws of the setting.

You do have a point that exploring First Humanity ruins would be a boring main plot, although I could see some sidequests doing as much. Maybe a more political main plot- idea!

Set it right after the Great War, with your characters cast as the first graduating class of Huntsmen. The core plot focuses on settling the nations and meditating tensions right after the Great War as Salem's agents try to start it once again. There could be plots involving Mantle tension as the nation transitions into Atlas, and the creation of Menagerie. NPCs could include Nicholas Schnee, Maria Calavera, Tock, and a young Ozpin.

Being set shortly after the Great War is my ideal as well, though I doubt it'd be Ozpin we're dealing with yet at that time, as it's speculated that there was likely another incarnation between the King of Vale and Ozpin. Determining who Oz is could be a fun detail for fans to figure out.

Your idea for a game right after the Great War sound good to me too @Old Gods of New Worlds That could also introduce new characters as well as younger versions of current ones.

The reason I chose a storyline after the main series was because it could introduce more worlds besides Remnant. Perhaps returning to the Ever After and traveling to other worlds beyond as well. I myself would like to know what the Gods have been up to since their departure from Remnant.
