Question about Quantum Network Bridges. (2024)

How many channels do they have? Aren't they supposed to link communication with multiple channels?

A link to a proper tutorial on how to set up a subsystem using those would also be appreciated.

You get 32 channels per quantum bridge, if I remember correctly. Note that you can send P2P channels through quantum bridges (but not other P2P tunnels), so if you're careful about P2P'ing everything in the most efficient way possible, you in effect get 32*32 = 1024 channels through a single bridge.

How do I p2p? I'm doing this with a massive headache and the attention span of a gerbil.

I'm living on Monday's time right now. I've already tried everything I could think of, but import/export buses keep shutting down. I have enough power and the channels are good.

Then I recommend you watch the video here. It'll tell you pretty much everything you need to know about channels.

It doesn't cover the exact algorithm with which channels choose the route they take back to the Controller (but if you create a setup where that matters, you're doing it wrong anyway) or the Super Soaryn Drive (which is a bit laggy and cheaty to start with). However, for anything else, the video will tell you all you need to know.

Thanks, man. That really helped. Thanks guys so very much. Was able to get the system running, now I have to look into sub-systems.

Is this even possible? Are there charts showing how to do this? I'll look it as I hate having to build multiple bridges when I have little space to put them.

IMO you are technically not even creating a subnetwork by doing this. You are exploiting a mechanic that was originally invented to allow subnetworks to be channelled through other networks, to simply channel your main network through itself without using up channels.

Set up the Quantum bridge. Connect a dense cable to it on both ends(the "home" network side should connect to your controller). Back at the home network connect a P2P bus up to your Controller and do the same on the far side of the quantum bridge to the Dense cable there. Use a Memory Card to pair up the two P2P busses. Now connect a dense cable from your controller to the P2P bus's front on the "home" side. You are now able to attach a dense cable on the far side similarly and use the link to draw channels directly from the Controller.

Repeat 31 more times if you really must.

It's a method of connecting an unlimited number of ME drives, annihilation planes, etc. to your ME network while only using a single channel on the main network by having a chain ad-hoc of subnetworks, each with a Storage Bus to connect it to the next subnet, an Interface to connect it to the previous subnet, and six additional channel-using devices that will be accessible to your main network.

People tend to go way overkill on their Controllers anyway, so it's rare that you'll actually have any reason to nest subnets like that.

Toward the end of the video I linked earlier, Algorithm uses a long line of dense cable to power some P2P tunnels carrying channels for some devices away from the Controller. Just do the same thing, except replace most of the dense cable with a linked pair of quantum rings.

Also note that, to get the most out of your P2P tunnels, you'll want to make sure that they're all carrying as many channels as possible. At your home base, you'll need 32 (or however many you need) P2P tunnels either slapped right on the face of your Controller, or with its active face connected to the controller via an unbranching line of dense cable so you can see exactly how many channels you're using. The back sides of these tunnels must also be connected to a Controller, either your main one or a separate one if you prefer using a subnet. Then, place a line of dense cable connecting this controller to a quantum ring, and another coming out from the linked quantum ring at your secondary base. In order to use the quantum bridge most efficiently, you'll want to make sure that each P2P tunnel you connect to it is using the maximum number of channels- so each P2P tunnel at your home base should be linked to exactly one P2P tunnel in the remote base, and each remote P2P tunnel should have at least one dense cable coming out of it.
