Alland our mouth shall proclaim your praise.
The Acclamation of Christ at the Dawning of the Day (page 108) may replace the Preparation as the start of Morning Prayer on any occasion.
One or more of the following is said or sung:
One of these prayers of thanksgiving (page 109),
Blessed are you, Sovereign God, creator of all,
to you be glory and praise for ever.
You founded the earth in the beginning
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
In the fullness of time you made us in your image,
and in these last days you have spoken to us
in your Son Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh.
As we rejoice in the gift of your presence among us
let the light of your love always shine in our hearts,
your Spirit ever renew our lives
and your praises ever be on our lips.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
AllBlessed be God for ever.

God of mercy, swift to help us, Each psalm or group of psalms may end with AllGlory to the Father and to the Son If there are two Scripture readings, the first may be read here, or both may be read after the canticle. And the people of Kiriath-jearim came and took up the ark of the Lord, and brought it to the house of Abinadab on the hill. They consecrated his son, Eleazar, to have charge of the ark of the Lord. From the day that the ark was lodged at Kiriath-jearim, a long time passed, some twenty years, and all the house of Israel lamented after the Lord. Then Samuel said to all the house of Israel, ‘If you are returning to the Lord with all your heart, then put away the foreign gods and the Astartes from among you. Direct your heart to the Lord, and serve him only, and he will deliver you out of the hand of the Philistines.’So Israel put away the Baals and the Astartes, and they served the Lord only. Then Samuel said, ‘Gather all Israel at Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.’So they gathered at Mizpah, and drew water and poured it out before the Lord. They fasted that day, and said, ‘We have sinned against the Lord.’ And Samuel judged the people of Israel at Mizpah. When the Philistines heard that the people of Israel had gathered at Mizpah, the lords of the Philistines went up against Israel. And when the people of Israel heard of it they were afraid of the Philistines.The people of Israel said to Samuel, ‘Do not cease to cry out to the Lord our God for us, and pray that he may save us from the hand of the Philistines.’So Samuel took a sucking lamb and offered it as a whole burnt-offering to the Lord; Samuel cried out to the Lord for Israel, and the Lord answered him.As Samuel was offering up the burnt-offering, the Philistines drew near to attack Israel; but the Lord thundered with a mighty voice that day against the Philistines and threw them into confusion; and they were routed before Israel.And the men of Israel went out of Mizpah and pursued the Philistines, and struck them down as far as beyond Beth-car. Then Samuel took a stone and set it up between Mizpah and Jeshanah, and named it Ebenezer; for he said, ‘Thus far the Lord has helped us.’So the Philistines were subdued and did not again enter the territory of Israel; the hand of the Lord was against the Philistines all the days of Samuel.The towns that the Philistines had taken from Israel were restored to Israel, from Ekron to Gath; and Israel recovered their territory from the hand of the Philistines. There was peace also between Israel and the Amorites. Samuel judged Israel all the days of his life.He went on a circuit year by year to Bethel, Gilgal, and Mizpah; and he judged Israel in all these places.Then he would come back to Ramah, for his home was there; he administered justice there to Israel, and built there an altar to the Lord. A Song of the Word of the Lord, or another suitable canticle, for example, number 35 (page 586), may be said Refrain: AllReturn to the Lord, who will have mercy, 1Seek the Lord while he may be found, ♦ 2Let the wicked abandon their ways, ♦ 3Return to the Lord, who will have mercy; ♦ 4‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, ♦ 5‘For as the heavens are higher than the earth, ♦ 6‘As the rain and the snow come down from above, ♦ 7‘Bringing forth life and giving growth, ♦ 8‘So is my word that goes forth from my mouth; ♦ 9‘But it will accomplish that which I purpose, ♦ Isaiah 55.6-11 AllGlory to the Father and to the Son AllReturn to the Lord, who will have mercy, One or more readings appointed for the day are read. The reading(s) may be followed by a time of silence. ‘When you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation has come near.Then those in Judea must flee to the mountains, and those inside the city must leave it, and those out in the country must not enter it;for these are days of vengeance, as a fulfilment of all that is written.Woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing infants in those days! For there will be great distress on the earth and wrath against this people;they will fall by the edge of the sword and be taken away as captives among all nations; and Jerusalem will be trampled on by the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled. ‘There will be signs in the sun, the moon, and the stars, and on the earth distress among nations confused by the roaring of the sea and the waves.People will faint from fear and foreboding of what is coming upon the world, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken.Then they will see “the Son of Man coming in a cloud” with power and great glory.Now when these things begin to take place, stand up and raise your heads, because your redemption is drawing near.’ A suitable song or chant, or a responsory in this or another form, may follow Lord, you will guide me with your counsel from Psalm 73 The Benedictus (The Song of Zechariah) is normally said, Refrain: AllYou show mercy to our ancestors, 1Blessed be the Lord the God of Israel, ♦ 2He has raised up for us a mighty Saviour, ♦ 3Through his holy prophets God promised of old ♦ 4To show mercy to our ancestors, ♦ 5This was the oath God swore to our father Abraham: ♦ 6Free to worship him without fear, ♦ 7And you, child, shall be called the prophet of the Most High, ♦ 8To give his people knowledge of salvation ♦ 9In the tender compassion of our God ♦ 10To shine on those who dwell in darkness and the shadow of death, ♦ Luke 1.68-79 AllGlory to the Father and to the Son Refrain: AllYou show mercy to our ancestors, Intercessions are offered Prayers may include the following concerns from the cycle on pages 362–363 ¶ The social services One of the forms of prayer found on pages 362–371 may be used. to you be praise and glory for ever.
As your dawn renews the face of the earth
bringing light and life to all creation,
may we rejoice in this day you have made;
as we wake refreshed from the depths of sleep,
open our eyes to behold your presence
and strengthen our hands to do your will,
that the world may rejoice and give you praise.
Blessed be God, Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
AllBlessed be God for ever.
how glorious is your name in all the world!
out of the mouths of babes at the breast.
that you might still the enemy and the avenger.
the moon and the stars that you have ordained,
mere human beings, that you should seek them out?
and crown them with glory and honour.
and put all things under their feet,
even the wild beasts of the field,
and whatsoever moves in the paths of the sea.
how glorious is your name in all the world!
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
let us pray with one heart and mind.
so may the light of your presence, O God,
set our hearts on fire with love for you;
now and for ever.

Psalmody
Psalm 119.153-end
for I do not forget your law.
according to your promise, give me life.
for they do not seek your statutes.
give me life, according to your judgements.R
yet do I not swerve from your testimonies.
for they do not keep your word.
give me life according to your loving-kindness.
and all your righteous judgements endure for evermore.R
but my heart stands in awe of your word.
as one who finds great spoils.
but your law do I love.
because of your righteous judgements.R
nothing shall make them stumble.
and I have fulfilled your commandments.
and greatly have I loved them.
for all my ways are before you.
give me understanding, according to your word.
deliver me, according to your promise.
when you have taught me your statutes.
for all your commandments are righteous.R
for I have chosen your commandments.
and your law is my delight.
and let your judgements be my help.
O seek your servant, for I do not forget your commandments.
as our lips pour forth your praise,
fill our hearts with the peace you give
to those who wait for your salvation
in Jesus Christ our Lord.
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen. 1 Samuel 7

and the unrighteous their thoughts;
to our God, who will richly pardon.
neither are your ways my ways,’ says the Lord.

and succeed in the task I gave it.’

as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
