The Tuscaloosa News continues its tradition of honoring the besthigh school soccer players in the area. Here are the boys and girls soccerall-area teams, and players and coaches of the year for 2024:
Girls
First-team
Player of the year: Amarii Johnson, Hillcrest
Sophom*ore, forward
Why chosen: Johnson had 41 goals and 19 assists during the regular season, leading Hillcrest to the first round of 6A playoffs.
Kenley Myers, Northridge
Senior, forward
Why chosen: The senior led the Jaguars with 16 goals and 22 assists during the regular season. Northridge made it to the 6A Final Four, falling to eventual state champion Briarwood Christian 3-0.
Addison Golden, American Christian Academy
Junior, forward
Why chosen: Golden scored 30 goals and had seven assists in 2024, being the main scoring threat on the ACA team. ACA lost in the first round of 4A playoffs.
Amelia Hamiter, Tuscaloosa Academy
8th grade, forward
Why chosen: Hamiter led Tuscaloosa Academy in scoring with 36 goals. The Knights made it to the 1A-3A Elite 8.
Mary Carson James, Northridge
Freshman, midfielder
Why chosen: As a freshman, James recorded 17 goals to go with 10 assists.
Ella Johnson, Northridge
Senior, midfielder
Why chosen: The senior recorded 16 goals to go with eight assists during the regular season.
Lexie Segars, Hillcrest
Junior, midfielder
Why chosen: Segars scored 32 goals and assisted on 21 during the regular season.
Kaylee Shaw, American Christian Academy
Sophom*ore, midfielder
Why chosen: Shaw filled in at center mid for ACA this season after Anna Robbins tore her ACL last fall. Shaw finished the season with 18 goals to go with 10 assists, directing most of the Patriots attack during the season.
Elle Emery, Northridge
Junior, defender
Why chosen: During the regular season, Emery scored four goals to go with three assists and had a large defensive presence for the Jaguars.
Sydney Sharp, American Christian Academy
Senior, defender
Why chosen: Being ACA's only senior, Sharp worked very hard to be an anchor for the young, inexperienced ACA defensive line.
Savannah Adderholt, American Christian Academy
Sophom*ore, goalkeeper
Why chosen: Adderholt recorded 104 saves in goal for the Patriots in 2024, with six of those saves coming from penalty kicks.

Player of the year: Ellis Dykes, Northridge
Senior, midfielder
Why chosen: Dykes, the team captain, scored 25 goals to go with 12 assists during the regular season, leading Northridge to the 6A Final Four. He is committed to Millsaps College.
Caleb Scofield, Northridge
Junior, forward
Why chosen: Scofield scored 23 goals to go with 14 assists through the regular season.
Lynn Otero, Northside
Freshman, forward
Why chosen: The freshman scored 27 goals this season to go with three assists.
John Laney, Demopolis
Senior, striker/winger
Why chosen: Laney finished his career as a six-year starter at Demopolis. He served as team captain this season and helped the Tigers reach the playoffs in 2024 for the first time in eight years, finishing with 30 goals and five assists.
Anton Schmidt, Tuscaloosa Academy
Junior, striker/midfielder
Why chosen: The junior finished the season with 37 goals to go with 15 assists.
Brock Abston, Tuscaloosa Academy
Senior, striker/midfielder
Why chosen: The senior finished the 2024 season with 21 goals and 18 assists.
Tucker Cornelius, Northridge
Senior, center back
Why chosen: Cornelius, who is signed to play football at Alabama as a PWO, was a leader on the Northridge defensive line, helping to allow just 24 goals in 22 games with 10 shutouts through the regular season.
Connor Hooks, Northridge
Sophom*ore, center back
Why chosen: On the defensive line with Cornelius, Hooks helped to hold opponents to just 24 goals in 22 matches with 10 shutouts through the regular season.
Phillip Mitrev, Tuscaloosa Academy
Senior, center back
Why chosen: Mitrev was voted the team's most valuable defensive player in 2024. He scored four goals and had four assists as Tuscaloosa Academy made it to the 1A-3A Final Four.
Nathan Chambers, Demopolis
Senior, center back
Why chosen: The team captain had 187 steals to go with five goals during his senior season, having switched from winger to center back early in the season.
Seth Gear, Northside

Why chosen: In his first year playing soccer, Gear recorded 74 saves with eight clean sheets.
