How to inherit Burgundy as France [1.35] ? (2024)

I tried different approaches inheriting Burgundy as France, but i dont get it ...

Burgundy rivals France in 1444 or will do soon and vicaversa,
some updates ago there was a chance of friendly relations to become allies,
this seems to been patched away ...

So how do u get Burgundy becoming France thanks to Mary's horse ?

dont know how many dozens of new games i started as France, NEVER happenend to me since 1.35 ...

I can confirm it, it happened to me after two or three restarts. I don't remember if they were actually friendly, but they hadn't rivaled me, which was enough to eventually get the alliance.

there is a small chance that they dont rival France at the start in 1444 and viceversa,
however that will change quickly ...
also all their claims gives them >100 malus to France coz they demand half of France soon,
thus i see no chance to balance that by pampering Burgundy in any way ...

in case Burgundy does not rival at the start they will change another smaller rival like Savoy quickly to France.
Avoiding rivalry for decades is not possible imho ...

It's possible I got lucky, but I did it in 1.35 without that much trouble, no save scumming required or anything. IIRC they did rival me in the end, but they didn't break the royal marriage, and I got the inheritance a few years later.

Doesnt France always get the choice to declare restoration of union war against Burgundy when the inheritance fires?

like cant you just force them into PU whether they rival you or not

true, and u might need 2-3 wars to achieve that thus bringing their trust near 0
so they wont ally u even with >100 positive relation later on.

bottomline is: i really would like to know the idea our devs might have for France inheritting Burgundy espc. since
we now have it inside the new tree ...

And yet it's going that way in my France campaign. They rivalled 3 other major nations (one of which is Austria), but still started with about a -120 opinion due to wanting my provinces. I did what I said in my earlier post until opinion was good enough for a Royal Marriage then an Alliance. For the first few years opinion stayed around +50 while currying favors to buy their trust. At this point, I have above +100 opinion as they gradually lost interest in my provinces as I expanded at England's and Brittany's expense while beginning to integrate my Appanages. Now I'm just waiting for Charles to die.

lol so the "problem" is that you think its not easy enough to get to instantly inherit hundreds of dev for free?

As said above, you can either war them to remove their rivalry with you or you can force the PU on an already hamstrung Burgundy without too much AE

Burgundy rivaling you at the start isnt "imbalanced"

historically true, in 1444 both were unfriendly to one another.

i am referring to the new french tree option after taking back Normandy ...
i was asking myself how to get Burgundy as ally before Charles I. will die
sometime around the 1480th ...

I just went to read that mission because I dont know what youre talking about and holy cow is this even easier than before.
You dont need to care about Charles dying, and in fact want him to die because that will fire your chance for the Restoration of Union war. After you force the PU, you will complete the requirements for that mission (because Burgundy is now your subject, just get their trust to 75 and relations to 180) and you can force Marie to die instead of just hoping/waiting for it to happen. So youll still get your insta inherit, you just have to lift a finger and fight a war for it

Actually, the mission is even more broken. Because Burgundy will have control of of all Western Burgundy and Picardy (except Calais), the mission will light up once you enforce a PU because a non-tributary subject owns those provinces. It will IGNORE all opinion, trust, and liberty desire and instantly annex Burgundy.

This issue is already in the bug report forums, since it completely invalidates a long-used Burgundy campaign strategy. The workaround when playing as Burgundy is once you agree to be France's junior partner, you must immediately release Picardy or Nevers as a vassal. This breaks the province ownership requirements for France.

i could work my way up to a marriage, however
as soon as the peace ended they rival me again,
no chance to become allies since trust is somewhere around 25-27

then i claimed Naples making me too mighty so Burgundy had to give up rivalry
and finally i could ally them.
However when Charles died soon afterwards it seems to be random to whom of their
allies they turn to, had to reload the backup once and was lucky next time.
