Adding Money to Your Venmo Balance (2024)

Most Users will see this feature after maintaining an active Venmo account for some time. If you'd like to access this feature in the meantime, you can sign up for the Venmo Debit Card.

How can I add money to my Venmo balance?

You can add money to your Venmo balance in the app.

Go to the Me tab and tap Add Money. Then, follow these steps to initiate your transfer:

  1. Select From bank or debit card
  2. Enter your amount and choose what funding source you want to use
  3. Tap Add

Once you do this, there is no way to cancel your transfer.

  • Remember: You don’t need to have money in your Venmo account to make payments to other Venmo users. You can fund payments to other Venmo users using a linked funding source.

When I add money, how long does it take for the funds to reach my Venmo balance?

Add money transfer from a debit card is typically available instantly. Learn more about adding money from a debit card.

Add money transfers from a bank typically take 3-5 business days to reach your Venmo balance, and the funds from that transfer won’t be available until it completes.

There are a few important things to keep in mind about these transfers:

  • The timing of your transfer can be impacted by several factors, such as weekends or holidays
  • You may see a completed charge in your bank account while the transfer is processing and before those funds reach your Venmo account
  • You can check the status of your transfer in the Venmo app, in your personal transactions feed under the Metab

Keep in mind that you might have the option to add money from your debit card.

I tried to add money with my bank account and got declined

Before you can use a bank account to add money to Venmo, it needs to be verified. If you’ve already verified your bank account on Venmo, there are a few other reasons why your attempt to add money may be declined:

  • Your bank returned a notice of insufficient funds for your requested transfer. This information may not be up to date, so please try later or use a debit card instead.
  • You’ve hit your transfer limit for the rolling week. Learn more about Venmo transfer limits.
  • The transfer attempt triggered an automated security flag, resulting in a decline. There isn’t a way to override these declines, so you may need to try again later or explore other options.

Can Iadd money to my Venmo accountat a store or bank?

The only way to add money to your Venmo account is in the Venmo app. We don’tcurrently have a way toadd physical cash to your Venmo account.

Can I cancel my transfer to my Venmo balance?

No. It's not possible to cancel a transfer to your Venmo balance after it is initiated. The Venmo Support team also cannot cancel this type of transfer on your behalf. If you change your mind after initiating a transfer to your Venmo balance, you can transfer it back to your bank once it completes.

What if the transfer to my Venmo balance fails?

Transfers can fail for a variety of reasons. If your transfer to your Venmo balance fails, you will be notified via email, and the funds will not move from your bank to your Venmo balance.
